Who we are
We’re one of the UK’s largest and most established housing associations, with a history spanning more than 160 years. Today, we serve over 220,000 residents across London and the South East, providing homes, services and support that make a real difference to people’s lives. Our purpose is rooted in creating quality homes that help build stronger neighbourhoods and communities – and that purpose shapes every decision we make.
Joining our Board
As part of a planned Board succession, we’re now looking to appoint a new Chair of our Audit and Risk Committee. Our committees play a key role in our governance, so we’re looking for someone who can be both a Board member and lead a committee.
That means being a confident and thoughtful chair, able to set the tone for high‑quality discussion, encourage constructive challenge and make sure that assurance is proportionate, insightful and forward‑looking.
As a member of our Board, you’ll share collective responsibility for our long‑term success, culture and reputation. We expect you to work collaboratively, exercise independent judgement and uphold the highest standards of integrity and accountability.
And since we exist to serve our residents, their safety, experience and outcomes are always reflected in our priorities and decision‑making.
Your experience
We don’t want to be too restrictive here, as we’re more interested in what you could bring to the table as opposed to your exact background.
But we think this role would be ideally suited for someone who’s built their career in a customer‑facing organisation. For example:
- Housing
- Infrastructure
- Regulated utilities
- Financial services
- Public services
- Local or central government
- Healthcare
- Care and support
- Charities and not‑for‑profit organisations
- Other large, complex environments.
We also welcome applications from anyone in the private sector who brings a strong understanding of regulation, public accountability and risk and who can apply that experience to a housing provider with a clear social purpose.
We’re also committed to equality, diversity and inclusion at Board level, so we actively welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds who can share their diverse perspectives and lived experience with us.
And the skills we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone with:
- strong professional credibility in audit, risk, finance or assurance
- experience of operating effectively at board or committee level in complex organisations
- sound judgement, independence of thought and the personal authority to chair with confidence
- the ability to balance rigorous scrutiny with collaboration and shared purpose.
While prior experience chairing an audit or risk committee, or familiarity with the housing or social sector would be welcome, it isn’t essential.
