Description

Time commitment: Approximately 2–3 days per month

For more than 160 years, Peabody’s purpose has been to provide safe and comfortable homes and help create better neighbourhoods and communities.

Today, we look after 220,000 residents across London and the South East, reinvesting the money we generate directly back into maintaining and improving our homes and building new ones.

We're building Peabody's Board for the future. As part of our Board succession, we're looking for experienced, thoughtful leaders who share our commitment to better outcomes for residents.

This is an opportunity to help shape the future of Peabody. If you share our commitment to residents and communities, we'd love to hear from you.

We're looking for an individual who understands the importance of governance, accountability and public trust. This role isn't simply about understanding compliance and regulation. It's about helping Peabody navigate a complex external environment, balancing resident expectations, regulatory requirements, organisational priorities and public accountability. The successful candidate will bring an understanding of how organisations build and maintain trust, protect their reputation and respond effectively to challenge and scrutiny.

You'll have a strong appreciation of the political, economic and social context in which housing associations operate. You may have gained this through experience in housing, local or central government, public services, regulation, customer-focused industries or other highly regulated environments. An understanding of both national policy priorities and the realities facing local communities will be particularly valuable, along with the ability to assess how changes in policy, regulation and public expectations may influence organisational strategy and decision-making.

We're interested in candidates who have experience of consumer regulation, complaints and service improvement, customer engagement, safeguarding, governance, assurance or oversight. You may have worked directly with regulators, the Housing Ombudsman or other organisations responsible for protecting customer interests and driving service improvements. Equally, you may bring experience from a broader customer, public service or regulatory environment where accountability, transparency and outcomes are central to success.

As a Board Member, you'll contribute to strategic discussions, provide constructive challenge and support effective decision-making across all areas of the organisation. You'll bring sound judgement, credibility and the ability to balance resident outcomes with the wider responsibilities of organisational stewardship. While experience at Board level would be welcomed, we're equally interested in hearing from experienced senior leaders who can bring fresh perspectives and are ready to make their first contribution in a non-executive capacity.

We're committed to building a diverse Board and welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds, particularly those whose experiences can help us better understand and reflect the communities we serve.
